Since the attacks on the tourists in 1997 in Luxor, Egypt now requires police escorts for foreigners traveling anywhere outside of the main touristy destinations. Usually it is just the standard blackshirt police who lead us around in their truck and then hang out while we check out the sites, but this time we got the full service. This guy didn’t even have to use his AK. It was a good day.
